According to the data presented by the Ministry of Education, within the governmental Commission meeting for protection of children left without parental care, about 135,000 children have parents working abroad...

The Minister of Education Leonid Bujor said that the number is growing, compared with 2005, when were 75,000 children in educational institutions that had one parent or both parents working abroad.

According to Bujor more changes are needed in the existing legislation and namely to make responsible parents that go abroad towards children who remained in the country.

"Nobody lacks the parents working abroad, whose children remained in the country, of the responsibility to children and society," said the minister.

According to Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family, Valentina Buliga, there are over 318 children left without parental care were placed in family-type children’s homes, and another 1865 are under the care of a guardian or curator.

Most often, children who have parents working abroad are involved in committing crimes, claims the Minister of Domestic Affairs Victor Catan. Only from the beginning of this year 473 crimes were committed by juveniles, which increased by 20.4% over the same period last year.

"All crimes are increasing, which denotes the fact that this phenomenon is very vicious for Moldova," said Catan.

The Government committee for protection of children left without parental care is to develop, until May 31, an action plan designed to improve the situation of children who have parents working abroad.
